Uncertainty

As a Salem, Oregon-based Hypnotherapist, I often see reminders, opportunities and situations where it is obvious to me that hypnotherapy would help the person.  I recently read an on-line article from Spirituality and Health magazine that could not have been a better example of that!  In the article by Anneli Rufus entitled The Uncertainty Curse, Rufus points out vividly how unkind and sometimes cruel comments by others directed at us often have life-long negative effects, often leading to a real hit on our self-esteem.  You can read the whole article here, and I highly recommend it!

Our subconscious minds accept everything as the truth, filtered by our judgment when we are older and have developed a sense of judgement known as “the critical faculty.”  When we are children, however, especially before the age of about 7 years old, we have not yet developed that critical faculty, and we believe it when someone tells us something, such as “You are stupid,” or “You are worthless,” or even “You are ugly.”  We feel those words, and accept them words as fact.  Every instance that repeats that message serves to strengthen its hold on our subconscious, and we behave in a way that fulfills its meaning.  Often, we are confused by the message because we previously did not think that was the case, and our confusion shakes us to our core and leads to behavior that reflects that confusion.  Rufus puts it this way:  “In the state of unknowing, we wander the world feeling strange in our flesh and wobbly on our feet, our eyes never quite clear, guessing and second-guessing everything, especially ourselves. The curse makes us adopt strange habits and form strange alliances that we hope might maybe, miraculously bring matters into sharper focus for us, might relieve that endless nausea of never-knowing.”  She calls this “The Uncertainty Curse.”

So how do we undo the damage from these bad messages we have adopted as the truth?  Well, the best, fastest, most natural way I know of is through hypnotherapy.  Getting to the cause of the feelings and behavior, and then eradicating their effect and “reframing” their meaning is so powerful, and leads to life-changing epiphanies!  Through hypnotherapy, one can effectively and permanently repair self-esteem, and do away with the uncertainty that accompanies it.  For more information about this or other aspects of hypnotherapy, please contact me at Skipnotherapy through my website, www.skipnotherapy.com.
